Paranormal Activity 2 – Review

After lasts years huge success, it would have been a silly decision not to make a Paranormal Activity 2.

It seems that after overshadowing Saw 6 at the box office at last years Halloween, Saw 7 jumped release dates one week later in order for a repeat not to occur and recent figures of Paranormal Activity 2’s weekend success this year proves that decision may have been a good one.

According to IMDb.com, this horror sequel snapped up a cool $40.7M in its opening weekend and with Halloween still to come, it’ll be interesting to see what cinema goers watch between Saw 3D and Paranormal Activity 2.

I went to see this film at a fairly early showing and that decision seemed to be a wrong one at first, as the rating is 15, there were a lot of immature 15 year olds on there half term that couldn’t help but to giggle really loudly every time the baby was on screen.

After seeing the first film last year in a nearly empty screen, the atmosphere was just so silent and eerie that it made the film so much scarier then my experience with Paranormal Activity 2. I remember cringing every time the film went back to a night scene.

The laughter did turn what should have been a scary atmosphere into a bit of a joke, but the film still managed at some points to shut up the giggling teenagers and provide some ultra scary moments.

It was cleverly linked to the first movie, which I wasn’t expecting before seeing the movie. Most of the scares and scenes were very similar to the first movie but some new extras such as a very good blair witch esk night vision camera scene, which was terrifying.

Something I noticed with the film is that there were some shots in the trailer that were not actually included in the film at all, which had me all movie waiting for one bit that never came.

It was a good horror film, maybe not as good as the first for me as it was more or less the same sort of scares, but it’ll be a good halloween horror to go and see if you don’t fancy the 3D gore of Saw 3D.

Paranormal Activity 2, Released 22nd October 2010. Check out the trailer below.
