Top 10 Trance/House Songs of 2010

My very first top 10 of 2010 comes from a young man called Jake Gable who has asked for a “trance/house top 10 songs of the year!”. I will reveal my top 10 in reverse order to build the tension and all that jazz, so here it is and I hope Jake and all of you enjoy.

10. Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP : We No Speak Americano

Yes it was really overplayed and yes it was at times annoying and yes it does fall under the genre disco house so it can be counted in my top 10 trance and house.

When I first heard We No Speak Americano I just thought what the hell is this, but after a few listens it turned into my tune of the summer 2010 and this was only backed up whilst away in Kavos and creating our unique dance to the song by holding chairs above our heads. Don’t ask any questions about that dance, but back to the song and it is just a song that will always remind me of 2010 and an amazing summer and although it did get played far too much in the end, it still always puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.

9. Duck Sauce : Barbra Streisand

Another Disco-House track and another song that is catchy and sometimes annoying, Barbra Streisand is another song that will remind me of 2010 and unlike We No Speak Americano was a song I instantly fell in love with.

The tune and beat is great and what tops off the song is the “oohs” and of course every time we hear the words “Barbra Streisand”.

8. David Guetta feat. Chris Willis, Fergie & LMFAO : Gettin’ Over You

Towards the end of 2009 David Guetta was coming into the mainstream with hits such as When Love Takes Over featuring Kelly Rowland and Sexy Bitch featuring Akon. Well 2010 was another great year for the French DJ with his biggest hit of the year being this collaboration with Chris Willis, Fergie and LMFAO, Gettin’ Over You.

Another tune I fell in love with over the summer with it’s catchy synth and great vocals from Chris Willis and Fergie, Gettin’ Over You had me up and raving every time I heard it, in the clubs or on the radio.

7. Alex Guadino : I’m In Love(I Wanna Do It)

The Italian DJ who brought us Destination Calabria in 2007 was back in 2010 with a very different sound that got rid of the saxophones and brought in some great synths and a very good female vocalist.

I’m In Love(I Wanna Do It) features vocals from Maxine Ashley who provides the song with a cool vibe along with the great piano synths by Guadino.

It’s not very Trance or House but Electro House is his genre so it gets a spot in my top 10.

6. Avicii : My Feelings For You

This single by Avicii will be released on Monday but it already gets a spot in my top 10 because it is such a great tune.

It first caught my eye because of its great innovative music video which features some great vintage games, but after watching the video more I realised what a great tune was playing with the great video.

The song is hoping to better Avicii’s other hit of the year Seek Bromance which made it to number 13 in the UK charts. It’s number 6 in my top 10 house/trance of 2010, can it better that in the charts next week?

5. Wolfgang Gartner : Illmerica

Before 2010 Wolfgang Gartner was always just the guy who remixed Wolgang’s 5th Symphony and that was all I knew of him. Now after collaborating with Deadmau5 for the great track Animal Rights and releasing this single, Illmerica, Wolfgang Gartner is a well known house and trance DJ that is compared to the likes of Deadmau5.

Illmerica sounds just like it could be a Deadmau5 track but it is Wolfgang and it is a great electro house anthem. I expect big things from Wolfgang in 2011.

4. Tim Berg : Seek Bromance

Tim Berg (A.K.A. Avicii) had his first major hit in 2010 with this song Seek Bromance. I first became familiar with this song from Tim Berg’s instrumental version “Bromance” which I immediately loved and could not stop playing.

Then a version with vocals by english singer Armanda Wilson was released to make the song more mainstream and this hit was created. The synths in the song are just unbelievably good and the drop is one of the best of the year.

Another artist I can see a big future for and if his new single My Feelings For You gets the recollection it deserves, 2011 will be a big year for the Swedish DJ.

3. Swedish House Mafia feat. Pharrell Williams : One(Your Name)

I remember seeing the video to this song long before it came out and not thinking anything of it. It wasn’t until I was out in Kavos where I kept hearing the song every club/bar I went to and I just did not know what this amazing new song was.

After arriving home I found out it was One(Your Name) and discovered the amazing group of DJ’s that is the Sweidsh House Mafia. I then heard this song time after time at the Tiesto Live event in London, Victoria Park as every DJ had remixes and mixes including this huge club hit.

It may well be the biggest club song of the year in most peoples eyes as it certainly seemed like the most played club song I can remember from the summer and I still hear it and love it now.

2. Swedish House Mafia feat. Tinie Tempah : Miami 2 Ibiza

The second hit for Swedish House Mafia in my top 10 and this time they got a little help from Mr Tinie Tempah for this huge raving anthem Miami 2 Ibiza.

The play count for this song was boosted a lot over the summer as blasting this out of the car speakers became a regular occurrence and I still am not tired of Tinie’s usual witty rapping and I still love the drop and synth in the chorus, which is just insane.

2010 was a big year for Swedish House Mafia and they are definitely on the list of acts to see live next year.

1. Deadmau5 : Strobe

2010 Trance and House has well and truly been a Deadmau5 year for me and it all started from this song, Strobe. I occasionally browse the web for the latest tunes that have come out in order to be “the one who heard it first” and now and again I get some absolute gems and this was definitely one of them.

I love the beat. I love the synth. I love the way it builds up. I love the drop. It is just such a good trance song that I absolutely love! This was only confirmed in July of this year when me and a few friends saw Tiesto Live at Victoria Park London and when the Dutch legend himself played this song I was heard above the music screaming “this is Strobe! this is Strobe”.

It is just a really good trance song and all those that haven’t heard it yet, you are in for a treat. Listen below.
