X Factor Semi Final

With Wagner and Katie both finally getting the axe last week after weeks in the bottom two for Katie and months of Wagner’s fans supporting him, it leaves us just five acts remaining in the competition.

With one week to go until the final of this years X Factor we hit Club Classics week which should throw up some interesting performances from a completely different genre then what we have seen so far. The acts will again perform twice with their second song choice by themselves and the theme being “anything that can get you to the final”, so this should definitely mean some great performances are on the cards. Let’s see what I thought of all the acts in the semi-final.

Rebecca -I heard before this weeks show that Rebecca was going to be doing something more than just stand behind a mic and sing and I suppose she did walk about 10 feet during the performance tonight but I still want to see maybe a bit more than that. Was a much more fun up tempoed performance from her though and she sang it very well.

Mary – I’m sorry but Mary in Club Classics week just doesn’t sound like it will work at all. It was a very ok performance. Nothing amazing and I have to feel that she is maybe the one of the 5 acts that will not make the final at the moment. Although if the whole of Ireland and Tesco get behind her she’s got a chance.

Matt – Well no signs of the tonsillitis he was suppose to have had this week, that was another great performance from Matt. You could see he was giving it his all and putting everything into it which is always good to see in a performer. Should easily make the final.

Cher – It was no B.O.B. and Bruno Mars but it was an alright performance from Cher. She is so different to the other contestants with her rapping element, but I am still not 100% convinced it’s good. I definitely preferred the singing vocals in this performance to the rapping as I usually do with this girl. She’s got popularity but does she have the voters?

One Direction – Not the best I’ve seen of them and I’m not sure if it was a bad performance or if it was just because I was comparing it to Rihanna who obviously is a much better singer. I hope if these boys make it in the industry which I think they should then they should stay away from this genre. It maybe be the popular area at the moment but performances they have done prior to this have been much better.

Matt – A much slower song than the first and it was sung very well but I think I preferred his first performance more personally. His voice definitely suited the song so you could see why he chose it. I’d be most surprised to see him go this week but that shouldn’t be happening.

Mary – Ooh very shakey start but she brought it back and it was very good vocally towards the end. Her best performances were definitely in the first few live shows and if I’m honest I’m a bit surprised she’s lasted this long. She’s a lovely woman though and if she does make the final I won’t be disappointed.

Cher – Well that was pretty good. It wasn’t the best vocals but it was a good performance and maybe even my favourite of Cher’s so far. That may well book her place in the final.

Rebecca – It’s a very brave thing to sing live with no music or backing vocals and at the beginning of this song that’s what Rebecca absolutely nailed. She has a great voice and if it was down to vocals alone it’d be her and Matt the final two no doubt. As soon as the song started I knew there wouldn’t be much dancing around but it was a wonderful performance.

One Direction – So much better than their first song and yet another performance that proves these guys are one of the best bands X Factor have had on the show. Still not my favourite performance of theirs but very good none the less and these guys should storm through to the finals.

I.M.O.

They all performed well this week but one act just isn’t in the same league as the rest in my opinion and that is Mary. As lovely as she is I can only see her going this week and if it’s another double eviction then it’s almost too close to call. With the judges not having any power in the decision being made from now on, the results show should be interesting to say the least.
